AMPS students will learn social studies and science through an on-line curriculum format instead of the traditional teacher-led class. Plato Edumentum Courseware is a standards-based online learning program with media-rich content actively engages students. Students will progress through the course at their own pace, so will have the opportunity to either complete lessons early and go on to the next section, or earn some free time if they are ahead of schedule. Consequently, if a student does not make satisfactory progress, or is absent and misses time to work on Plato during the school day, they will fall behind.
I will periodically supplement the Plato curriculum with various partner, group and independent assignments such as Interactive Notebooks, Doodle Notes, Webquests, Color-by-Number and various other projects.
LOGIN: Students can access their Plato Edmentum courses by logging in at https://ple.platoweb.com with the following credentials:
Account Login: aps8
PLATO Name: first initial followed by last name in all lower-case (i.e. jdoe)
Password: student ID number
REQUIRED MATERIALS: Students will need a one-subject notebook for each class. This notebook will remain in the classroom at all times, as well as a pen or pencil to take notes.
INTERNET USE: While Plato is an on-line format, students may NOT, for any reason, be on the internet while they are in class. Cheating is taken very seriously, and significant consequences will enforced if students use search devices or other web-sites besides the Plato Courseware site. Students caught cheating must re-take any related coursework. Please note that instructors have the capability of seeing student activity (or non-activity) in real-time.
OUTSIDE OF CLASS: Students are able to login to Plato at home to work on their lessons. However, they may NOT click into any tests or exams. Doing so will constitute cheating and will result in a failing score. Work at home should include reading, studying and taking notes from the tutorial. All student work is time and date stamped for instructors to verify.
NOTES: As you work through each class, you must take adequate notes from each lesson assigned.
These notes need to be information learned during the tutorial. Be sure to click into and study all sections within the tutorial.
If you do not provide adequate notes from the lesson, you will not earn credit in the class.
Notes must be printed in your own hand-writing; not typed or copied from on-line sources.
All notes must also be dated and titled.
Students cannot share notes with others; doing so would constitute cheating.
At the end of each Plato course, they MUST turn in all of their notes and will not get them back.
MASTERY TESTS: At the end of each lesson, students must pass the Mastery Test with at least 80%. If you require additional attempts to earn 80%, you must go back into the tutorial and log additional time, as well as show instructors the notes you took from the lesson before the test will be unlocked.
UNIT QUIZES: At the end of each unit, students must pass the Unit Test with at least 70%. If you require additional attempts to earn 70%, you must go back into the tutorial and log additional time, as well as show instructors the notes you took from the lesson before the test will be unlocked. Each unit test will be worth 50 points.
